Clean Energy

Sustainable Energy - an overview

Here is the latest blog from Nhamo Matsvimbo. Our world is going through a transition. Wind and solar are powering a clean energy revolution. Many of the initiatives to use clean energies are embraced in multiple countries. Some of them are backed by governments and private industries looking to preserve our planet and fix some of the damage caused by our constant demands of resources. Many people believe that individual efforts don’t count. The fact is that every single bit of help they can get adds up a lot.

As renewable use continues to grow, a key goal will be to modernize the electricity grid, making it smarter, more secure, and better integrated across regions.

Today, solar-powered technologies are also used to heat homes and businesses, to warm water, or power devices. Solar energy systems also don’t produce air pollutants or greenhouse gases, and as long as they are responsibly sited, most solar panels have few environmental impacts beyond the manufacturing process.

We’ve also come a long way from old-fashioned windmills. Today, wind energy turns a turbine’s blades, which feeds an electric generator and produces electricity. Hydropower is also the largest renewable energy source for electricity, though wind energy is soon expected to take over the lead.

If you’ve ever relaxed in a hot spring, you’ve used geothermal energy. Geothermal energy has many advantages says Nhamoinesu Matsvimbo. For instance, it is renewable and also very safe for the environment. It does not pollute the environment unlike coal and other energy sources. However, the advantages are usually greater than the disadvantages especially when used for a long period, Nhamoinesu Matsvimbo added. Geothermal energy is much more efficient than other sources of energy.

Advocating for renewables, or using them in your home, can accelerate the transition toward a clean energy future.

Environmental Issues

The Major 5 Environmental Issues

Here is the latest blog of Nhamo Matsvimbo. We all like to perform our part to help the environment. But as time keeps going, we’re discovering new environmental issues.

Biodiversity

Biodiversity is the most complicated and crucial aspect of our planet. It is basically every living element and ecosystem that comprises the environment. From the tallest giraffe to the tiniest microorganism, almost everything plays a significant role in the preservation of our world.

Deforestation

Our woodlands create new oxygen and additionally help in managing temperature and precipitation. At present, timberlands cover 30% of the area, but wooded areas are being lost on a regular basis because people are looking for homes, food, and materials. Deforestation is a huge problem and will just continue to get worse.

Pollution

Pollution is one of the main reasons why many of the other environmental issues, such as climate change and also biodiversity. All of the 7 key forms of pollution – air, water, soil, noise, radioactive, light and even thermal – are impacting our environment. "All kinds of pollution and environmental problems are interlinked and affect one another." says Nhamoinesu Matsvimbo. So, to tackle one is to tackle them all. That’s why we need to work together, as a community, to reduce the impact that pollution is having on our environment Nhamoinesu Matsvimbo added.

Water

Water pollution is a massive problem for us and our environment. Not only is polluted water a substantial monetary strain but it is also harming both mankind and marine life. The introduction of harmful substances into rivers, oceans, lakes, and ponds, which changes the physical, chemical or biological condition of the water is called water pollution. The polluted water lacks oxygen and therefore the organisms die. Water is the main source of life and therefore it is our prime duty to prevent it from any kind of pollution.

Climate Change

As pointed out by a recent UN report, without ‘unprecedented changes’ in our actions and behaviour, our planet will suffer drastically from global warming in just 12 years. Perhaps more extreme weather events such as droughts, wildfires, heatwaves, and flooding will convince the public to put more pressure on policymakers to act urgently to curb carbon emissions and address this issue before it’s too late. Political will has not been strong enough so far to initiate a massive policy shift away from fossil fuels and toward sustainable forms of energy.

These issues require serious solutions
